Some teachers may encourage students to keep a journal in myON, perhaps to write about their reading or other topics that teachers assign.
Accessing the Journal for Writing While Reading a Book
While reading books, students can select the Journal button on the left or right side of the page (or the bottom in smaller windows).
Once the journal opens, students can select one of their journal entries and continue writing.
Student can also:
Select New Entry to start a new journal entry. Other entries are listed on the left, where you can select them to open them.
To copy text from the book you are reading, in your journal, select Copy Text. Then, in the book, drag your mouse over the text you want to copy to highlight it. After highlighting the text, select Copy at the bottom of the window. Copy text is not available for books that do not include audio.
Select to add a citation to the book to your journal. The citation includes the author, title, and the date when the citation was added.
Select Delete Entry to delete the journal entry that is open (selected on the left side of the journal window).
To close the journal, select the X or select the Journal button again.
Viewing Your Journal When You're Not Reading a Book
When you're not reading a book, you can still see your journal entries. There are two ways to do this:
- At the top of the main myON page, select your name, then select Journal. You will see your journal entries. On the left side of the page, select the journal entry that you want to read.
- When you are working on an assignment writing activity, you can select Journal on the right to see your journal. Your journal will open to the right. On the left side of the journal panel, select the journal entry that you want to read.
