As you read a book, you can play audio if the book has audio and your teacher has not turned audio off. As you listen to the book's audio, you can pause it, change the volume, and change how fast the audio reads.
Note: Some advanced or specialized books may not include audio; in those cases the Play/Pause button will not be available. All books within the myON core collection include audio.
Audio Options While Reading a Book
Pause Audio
The Pause/Play button is on the bottom of the page. Select this button to start playing audio (if it is not already playing).
When audio is playing, the button changes to Pause. If you select this button, the audio and highlighting will be paused for just that page, but will start again when the page is turned.
Go Back 10 Seconds
When you are playing audio for a book, if you want the audio to go back 10 seconds, select the icon with a "10" on it at the bottom of the page.
Audio Volume
o change the volume of audio, select the circle and move it to the left (to make it softer) or right (to make it louder).
Speed of Audio
In the settings, there is also an option to adjust the audio speed while reading a book. The Audio Speed setting is at the top. Move the circle to the right to speed up the audio, or move it to the left to slow down the audio. The arrow above the slider will show you if you are playing audio at normal speed (), at a faster speed (
), at the fastest speed (
), or at a slower speed (
).
Turn Off Audio for Students (Faculty)
Audio can be turned off completely for an individual student or for multiple students at once.
- At the top of any page, select Classroom, then Students.
- Check the box/boxes next to each student for whom audio should be turned off. Then, click the Select an Action drop-down list and choose Audio Setting.
- In the Select Audio Setting drop-down list, select Always Off.
- A message will appear, asking you to confirm the change to audio settings; select Yes.
Another way to turn off audio is through the Reading Options when creating/editing assignments. Refer to How to Create Assignments (Faculty) or How To Edit Assignments (Faculty, Building Administrators, and District Administrators) for more information on this option.
Other Considerations
The device that you’re reading books on needs to have working audio.
